Jon Bayless

Dr. Bayless has been with Sevin Rosen Funds since 1981.  Jon served as chairman of both Landmark Graphics Corporation and CIENA Corporation, two public companies funded by SRF.  He is currently serving on the boards of ExteNet, GENBAND, Layered Media, and Xtera Communications.

Jon has taken a lead role in nurturing several SR Funds portfolio companies, including CIENA Corporation, a pioneer in the optical transmission market.  The company went public in a 1995 IPO.

Jon holds a BSEE from the University of Oklahoma, a MSEE from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University.  For more information, please visit www.srfunds.com.

 

Greg Blonder

Morgenthaler Ventures

Greg Blonder, based in Summit, NJ, joined Morgenthaler as a Venture Partner in 2000 from AT&T Ventures and became a Partner in 2001.  Previously, Greg led a number of research divisions at Bell Labs, including the Material Science, Optical Devices and Consumer Expectations Research Labs.  He was also Chief Technical Advisor for the AT&T Corporation before joining AT&T Ventures.  He is currently a director of foonz, IGA Worldwide, Inplane Photonics, FiveStar Technologies, Lamina Ceramics, and Princeton Lightwave.  Greg holds over eighty patents, in areas ranging from semiconductor devices, user interfaces, medical devices to Internet transaction services.  He received his S.B. and PhD degrees in Physics from M.I.T. and Harvard University.

 

Michael Eisenberg

Michael Eisenberg joined Benchmark Capital as a general partner in July 2005 from Israel Seed Partners where he was a general partner since July 1997. Eisenberg began his career at Jerusalem Global where he started and led the firm’s successful investment banking group and partnership with Montgomery Securities. Michael has focused on Internet investments since 1995 and has invested in and sat on the board of Israel’s leading companies and start ups, such as Shopping.com (Nasdaq SHOP, acquired by EBAY), Answers.com (Nasdaq ANSW), Finjan, Tradeum (acquired: VERT), and Picturevison (acquired: EK). Michael writes a blog on Internet trends, Israeli politics and children’s issues at www.sixkidsandafulltimejob.blogspot.com.  Michael also serves on the board Yeshivat Har Etzion, Israel’s largest yeshiva combining traditional Talmudic study with military service. In January 2005, Eisenberg co-founded www.scoop.co.il, Israel’s first and only citizen journalism project.

Michael lectures frequently on the topics of Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He holds a BA in Political Science from Yeshiva University in New York. Michael lives in Jerusalem, Israel with his wife and seven children.

 

Asad Jamal

Mr. Jamal founded ePlanet Ventures in 1999 with a focus on global venture capital opportunities. He is responsible for overseeing the firm's investment portfolio, developing exit strategies, and assisting entrepreneurs grow their businesses. Mr. Jamal has led investments in multiple sectors ranging from Advertising & Media, Communication & Wireless, Computing Software, Consumer Internet, Energy, Enterprise Software, Financial, Life Sciences, Network, Optical, Security, and Storage Networks. A number of these companies have been listed on NASDAQ - Baidu, Kong Zhong, Focus Media. Others have been acquired such as Skype (EBAY), Cyanea (IBM), Safeview, and End2End. Mr. Jamal has served on various boards of directors, including Baidu; and has over 25 years’ professional experience in Asia, Europe, and the United States. He previously worked in a senior executive capacity with Peregrine Investment Holdings. He was also the Head of Principal Investing at the Interest-rate Derivatives Trading Unit of the Chase Manhattan Bank in London. Mr. Jamal holds a B.Sc. (Honors) from the London School of Economics, is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, and is charter member of TIE Silicon Valley and OPEN Silicon Valley.

 

Paul Maeder

Paul focuses on information and healthcare technology investments, most notably software, as well as systems, security and diagnostics.  He has more than twenty-eight years of software experience and over twenty-two years experience in venture capital.  He currently serves on the boards of Avidyne, Bit9, BlueTarp Financial, Imprivata, Predictive Biosciences, StreamBase Systems, Vertica and Village Ventures.

In 2007, Paul was appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Venture Capital Association.

Paul is a former director of Avid Technology (Nasdaq: AVID), CheckFree (Nasdaq: CKFR), Chipcom, HighGround Systems (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Mainspring (acquired by IBM), Relicore (acquired by Symantec), SCH (acquired by Legato Systems), SQA (acquired by Rational Corporation), Sybase (Nasdaq: SYBS), VistaPrint (Nasdaq: VPRT) and WebLine Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems).

Before co-founding Highland, Paul was a general partner at a Boston-based venture capital partnership where he concentrated on software investments.  Prior to entering venture capital, he held operating positions for six years in high-growth technology companies.  At Novacor Corporation he managed several projects in the development of an implantable artificial heart.  Later, Paul was responsible for the development of a complex visual field examination instrument at Synemed Corporation where he also headed the company's mechanical engineering and software development.

He holds a B.S.E., Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, an M.S., Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Paul is an avid ocean sailor, an ultralight and commercial pilot.  He currently serves as a member of the Board of Overseers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Boston Museum of Science, and the New England Aquarium and has served on a number of charitable boards, including two as board chair: The Nature Conservancy and Buckingham Browne & Nichols School.  Paul's family heritage is Swiss.  He holds both Swiss and U.S. passports and is fluent in Swiss-German. 

 

Sanford Miller

Sandy Miller joined IVP in April 2006. He focuses on later-stage investments in private and public information technology companies. Sandy has more than 25 years of venture capital and investment banking experience and has served on over 20 public, private and philanthropic boards. He has led investments in Handango, Merchant e-Solutions, LiveOps, Placeware, SkyStream Networks, Swissray, US Internetworking and Vonage (VG). Sandy is Chairman of Handango and a director of Swissray and Vonage (VG). Prior to IVP, Sandy was a Senior Partner with 3i, a leading global venture capital firm. He established and managed 3i’s later-stage technology investing business in the United States. Sandy was recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the leading venture investors in the U.S. by inclusion in the 2007 Midas List.

Earlier in his career, Sandy was a leading technology investment banker, representing clients such as Yahoo, Solectron and IDEC. Sandy co-founded Thomas Weisel Partners (TWPG), where he was a member of the Executive Committee, Chief Administrative and Strategic Officer, and Co-Director of Investment Banking. He was also a Senior Partner at Montgomery Securities and led the technology and healthcare groups. Prior to Montgomery, Sandy was a Managing Director and opened technology investment banking offices in San Francisco for Merrill Lynch and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Sandy was also a Manager of strategy consulting at Bain & Company and a securities lawyer at Pillsbury Winthrop.

Sandy is a College Trustee at the University of Virginia and serves on the Management Board of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Cantor Center (Stanford University Art Museum). Previously, he served on the Board of Stanford Law School and was a Trustee of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the American Conservatory Theatre and Grace Episcopal Cathedral.

Sandy earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia (Phi Beta Kappa) and a J.D. and M.B.A. from Stanford University.

 

Seth Rudnick

Seth’s comprehensive experience with bringing the development of new medicines to fruition provides invaluable perspective to Canaan healthcare investments since his addition to the firm in 1998.  He is committed to working with companies who usher in novel, efficacious drugs to the marketplace.  Before Seth joined Canaan, he served as CEO and Chairman at CytoTherapeutics (CTII), a company focused on stem cell-based therapies to combat chronic diseases.  He also helped start and headed Research & Development for Ortho Biotech, a division of Johnson & Johnson that provides products and services to improve lives of individuals with chronic illnesses.  At Ortho Biotech, Seth was instrumental in creating a portfolio of products which still provide significant Johnson & Johnson revenue today.  Seth began his career at Schering-Plough, a global science-based healthcare company, leading clinical trials.  He later moved to Biogen to run its pharmaceutical development efforts.  In 2006, he was named to the Midas List, a prominent venture capital ranking of the best dealmakers in high-tech and life sciences.  Seth has also served on the medical and public health faculty of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  He is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, teaching and advising faculty members on biotechnology issues.

 

Scott Tobin

Scott joined Battery in 1997. His investments include Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM), @stake (acquired by Symantec), Freshpoint, ITA Software, Kashya (acquired by EMC), The London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange (LIFFE) (acquired by Euronext), MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS), MoreMagic Solutions, The NewsMarket, ProfitLogic (acquired by Oracle), Ruckus Network, The Tennis Channel and Ximian (acquired by Novell). Prior to joining Battery, Scott spent time in investment banking at First Albany Corp. and was previously the Director of Corporate Development at Future Vision, a venture-backed software company that was sold to Softkey International. He graduated with honors from Brandeis University with a BA in International Relations and Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.
