Panel Discussion
“Investor Outlook”
Session topics include, but are not limited to:
- Where do you see the best returns? (Early stage venture/growth capital/distressed funds/healthcare focused funds) what do you plan to overlook/avoid within your portfolio, and why?
- A look at how LPs are trying to address the changes in the market by re-evaluating management fees and re-aligning interest.
- What kinds of trends are you seeing in China/India? Where have you allocated funds and why? What do you think are the most attractive features of the emerging markets?
- Last year the secondary markets saw a surge in popularity as institutions tried to de-lever or raise funds - what’s your attitude towards the secondary markets this year? Has that surge eased or is it continuing? Are liquidity driven sellers still driving the market? What role can allocations to secondary funds play within an investor’s portfolio?
- People often focus on the relationship/dynamic between LP’s & GP’s but what are you seeing in the inter-LP relationship? How are you looking to your peers as competition or advice?

Panel Discussion
“Are we at the Beginning of the Recovery/Entering a New Private Equity Investing Cycle?”
Session topics include, but are not limited to:
- If a recovery, what similarities are there with past cycles? Does this look like the early 90s? Like the early 2000s? What lessons do you draw from the past that can be applied to now?
- Is liquidity of investors markedly different?
- Are returns from PE/VC going to be different?
- How is the relationship between LPs and GPs different? There’s all this noise about ILPA – how deep and long-lasting are the changes in fund terms being discussed (and in some instances, happening) going to be?
- How does regulation factor in? The Regulation of banks, and the increased scrutiny coming onto the industry as a result of pay-to-play; how does all of that come together to affect how you view PE?

“Manager Selection - new approaches to assessing GP’s in 2010”
Session topics include, but are not limited to:
- How has having more transparency/more available information on managers changed your view of current investments? Any nasty surprises?
- A look at the current power dynamic between LP’s and GP’s: who wields the most influence, and what information do you think can be legitimately demanded from one another.
- The general consensus seems to be that fund-raising for managers has gotten harder. As an LP, what are you looking for from your fund managers going forward, size? reputation? strategy? sector focus? And what are the red flags?
- What are your prospects for international markets, and how do you approach manager selection abroad?
- A discussion of liquidity, looking at best practices in planning and monitoring as well as a review of what the optimum allocation for illiquid assets is for endowments, foundations and corporate funds. What are the costs and benefits of illiquid investments?
- It is becoming increasingly clear that “hedge funds” and “private equity funds” are investment structures, rather than investment strategies? Is the PE structure superior? Will we see traditional hedge fund managers launch PE structures?
