Session Description:
The current utility business model which provides ratepayers with access to ubiquitous, reliable and economically priced energy is not compatible with the energy sustainability concerns that dominate policymakers' agendas and consumers' expectations. To transform the current model into one that can address these concerns requires more than a move to the Smart Grid. It also calls for informed consumers and an information utility that will provide energy-relevant information to consumers and other market participants. Utilities should invest in business processes and technologies required to manage the energy information value chain. Those that do will will have a significant competitive advantage.
