Summary:
The outlook for private equity has brightened but is far from settled. Deal size and activity levels have come back strongly at the close of 2010 from the lows experienced after the financial crisis. Despite the improved outlook around financing, exits, and fund-raising, many challenges still remain.
As we enter 2011 with signs of a tentative recovery in the US, strong headwinds in Europe, and robust growth forecasts for several emerging markets, many questions remain about the direction for private equity this year. What are the promising sectors for investment in 2011? Will private equity investors lose out to cash heavy strategic investors looking to commit capital? Do the BRIC countries provide the best opportunities for investment in the coming year and what is the optimal way to play? How will deal structures change to better align GP and LP interests? These are amongst the topics to be addressed at the 2011 Leadership in the Private Capital Markets event in Los Angeles.
