As organizations consider whom to place into crucial executive-level roles, the focus is often on “fit”: Are they the right fit for the job? Is the role, culture, and business challenge the right fit for the leader?

The problem with "fit" is that it’s not enough. In today's rapidly changing business environment, the jobs of executives are more dynamic than ever, constantly shifting to adapt to the contours of disrupted markets and jostled organizations. New research shows that more and more leaders are struggling with the transition into executive leadership, often having difficulties with focus, priority-setting, alignment, and sustaining effort. Without the right mindset, today’s sprint-oriented leadership environment quickly drain both energy and performance from otherwise-successful leaders.
