“The Real Value Proposition: Understanding and overcoming barriers to effective dispute resolution (on your side of the fence as well as the other)”
Session Description:
With the bulk of most companies’ legal spend devoted to litigation, the ongoing debate over hourly rates, discounts and alternative billing arrangements often misses the mark. Effective resolution of lawsuits and other disputes often has as much to do with identifying the barriers to early resolution within your own company and with your own counsel as it does with your company’s adversaries. This discussion will explore recurring impediments to early and effective dispute resolution, and how to overcome them. As you’ll see, the biggest problems are often in your own backyard, as are the solutions.

"Post Federal Rules eDiscovery: Defensibility & Cost Containment"
Session Description:
With the changes to the federal rules came an increasing burden on practitioners. The complexity, potential costs and significant risks associated with “doing it wrong” are now so great that we must focus not only on cost and efficiency but also overall defensibility of the process. Our panel will address the variables of electronic document production as well as the options that are now being employed to reduce the risks, increase defensibility and lower overall costs.

“Privacy, patents and protection: the three Ps that are everyone’s IP challenge”
Session Description:
In today’s world, where being online isn’t an option, it’s a necessity, in-house counsel face a raft of issues they didn’t have to consider five or ten years ago. Privacy has taken on new meanings. Trademark protection has become harder to track. Protecting your company from nefarious third parties, who have access to resources that can span the globe in seconds requires the type of vigilance most companies have no experience with. In sharing her perspectives, Karen Cottle, SVP and General Counsel at Adobe Systems Inc, will articulate her thoughts on some of the key IP issues that every company should focus on, how to deal with them, and how to keep one step ahead in this ever-changing world.
