“Creating an Optimal Fuel Mix: Affordable, Sustainable and Clean”

Session Description:
Soaring oil prices and rising carbon emissions pose the threat of a global catastrophe in the economic, environmental, and political spheres. In addition, traditional fossil fuels will be exhausted in the next 50 to 150 years. As a result, nations, regions, and companies are re-evaluating fuel portfolios. In examining the alternatives, affordability, sustainability and cleanliness should be considered. And as no single fuel meets all of the above criteria, a mixed portfolio of coal, gas, nuclear, and renewables will have to be created while the answer to the optimal fuel mix question will be a regional one. This panel will discuss approaches to achieving an optimal fuel mix, and whether this can be done without nuclear fuels.

"The Canadian Oil and Gas Sector - Opportunities and Challenges"

Session Description:

With Canada's oil and gas reserves considered to be second only to Saudi Arabia in size, largely as a result of the reserve potential of the oil sands, there has been a significant increase in inbound international investment in the Canadian oil and gas sector.  An overview of recent merger and acquisition activity, the opportunities for continuing investment in the sector as well as the challenges presented by the Province of Alberta's new royalty regime, environmental pressures and rising costs and development constraints will be discussed during this presentation.
