Basil Imburgia
Senior Managing Director

Basil Imburgia is a Senior Managing Director in FTI’s Forensic practice in New York. Mr. Imburgia has over fifteen years of experience in providing forensic accounting and financial and economic analysis to attorneys in litigation and twenty years of public accounting experience. His experience includes deposition, arbitration, mediation and trial testimony. He has also acted a neutral arbiter in accounting/post acquisition disputes.

Mr. Imburgia has advised on matters involving accounting and auditing issues, patent, false advertising, trademark, trade secret and copyright disputes, breach of contract, derivative products and banking litigation, counterfeiting disputes, valuation of entities, investigating and identifying underpaid royalties and fraudulent payments, fair presentation of financial statements, securities and financial reporting investigations, insurance claims and alter-ego matters. He has calculated damages such as lost profits, reasonable royalties, excess costs, price erosion and loss of business value. He has additional experience with mergers and acquisitions due diligence, IPO’s, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles analysis, and valuations.

Mr. Imburgia has provided expert witness testimony on matters involving royalty disputes, wrongful termination, alter-ego, taxable income, bankruptcy, trade secrets, breach of contract, securities, copyrights, GAAP issues and post acquisitions in U.S. federal and state courts for trials, arbitrations and depositions. Some of his most notable cases include United States v. Afram Lines et al., Liz Claiborne and L.C. Licensing, Inc. v. Mademoiselle Knitwear, et al., IMS Health Inc. v. Vality Technology, Inc., and the Real Estate Associates Limited Partnership matter.
Mr. Imburgia’s industry experience includes the retail, apparel, textiles, utilities, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, consumer electronics, computer software, telecommunications, brokerage, banking and real estate sectors.

Prior to its acquisition by FTI, Mr. Imburgia was a Partner in KPMG’s Forensic Services practice. Prior to KPMG, he was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mr. Imburgia has been an instructor of training courses on accounting/auditing, intellectual property and forensic accounting concepts, approaches and techniques. He has taught courses at a variety of institutions and conferences including Financial Statements in the Court Room for Federal and State Court Judges, the AICPA Litigation Services Conference and various NYSSCPA Litigation and Fraud Conferences.

Mr. Imburgia holds a B.S. from C.W. Post School of Professional Accountancy. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and a Certified Fraud Examiner. Mr. Imburgia is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants where he also served as Chairperson of the Litigation Services Committee in 2000 and 2001.
