Daren Glenister, Field Chief Technology Officer at IntraLinks, discussed the value of content, collaboration and data during his presentation at the 2014 Chief Information Officer Leadership Forum: Spotlight on Financial Services in New York on Sept. 9. In his presentation, Glenister noted “content is the new perimeter,” and organizations need to understand how to manage content to succeed in today’s economic climate.
According to Glenister, people want to work differently. As a result, there are also new data risks that organizations need to understand, Glenister said. However, an organization often has no control over data, Glenister said, because few organizations make data a part of their everyday operations: “The data platform has to be part of the enterprise and it has to be integrated into the enterprise fabric … We can no longer put barriers in place and lock down the data. We have to open that up. The line of business is demanding that we open the data up so that we can get usability and improve productivity.”
Content is driving change, Glenister said, and organizations need to have security policies and procedures in place to protect their data. In addition, organizations need to understand risk, Glenister said, so they can comply with myriad regulations: “Security has to be in line with that and so do the policies. If I talk to CIOs, many of them will turn around and say the compliance is part of our business. We have to do that. We’re more concerned about the risk because we can’t control that as much and that risk is going to be absolutely critical to the content.”
