Fast Retailing Inc. (Uniqlo, Theory, JBrand, Comptoir de Cotonniers, g.u., and Princess Tam Tam) entered the US market as the #1 retailer in Asia, with the goal of being the #1 retailer in the world. This led to many exciting new challenges – the biggest one being that Uniqlo, the largest of the Fast Retailing brands, was little known in the US. The challenge became how to recruit top talent when not many people know your brand. Melissa Wallace will discuss how the company is building a global team of creative executives, store focused teams, and IT and HR staff; how the team found technical partners to effectively tell the story of UNIQLO USA, promoted communication across cultures with IT, and the challenges and ultimate successes of building a global brand that appeals to candidates (and customers!) from Europe, Asia, USA, and Australia.
