Sai Billanuka is the VP of Technology, US Direct Tax at Thomson Reuters. US Direct Tax provides the market leading, software-as-a-service tax compliance and reporting platform, for both Fortune 5000 corporations, principally multi-nationals, and the world’s largest public accounting firms. In this capacity, he leads a team of more than 200 software engineers, tax analysts and technical operations staff that develops and manage the technology platforms and applications used worldwide to assemble data, calculate global tax liabilities, book estimated tax liabilities for financial reporting, complete tax returns and file with U.S. Federal government and all 50 states.
Of his 20 years in the technology engineering business Mr. Billanuka has spent the last 10 years taking global geographically dispersed teams and transforming them into functional software delivery organizations. Mr. Billanuka works equally well at both at the executive level, planning and structuring the organization, as well as diving into the details where clarity is needed. He had also been recognized by Thomson Reuters as an innovator and has received numerous “Awards of Excellence” for his significant achievements. Prior to Thomson Reuters, Mr. Billanuka worked in startup technology ventures and in the New York Financial industry.
Mr. Billanuka received his master’s degree in computer science from Osmania University.

Coming from a background as a software developer and a teacher, he is as comfortable in a scrum with developers as he is in a board room leading the business. Michael has contributed articles to CIO Review, presented live alongside Adobe and Microsoft, and has been quoted in reports for Gartner & Forrester. Michael acts as a thought leader to push the evolution of the group's practices, culture, infrastructure, tooling, capabilities, and message while also leading countless customer products for customers.
Michael specializes in Product Design & Development for Digital Transformation and technology strategy focusing on Cloud Transformation, Machine Learning & AI, Mobile, Experience Design, IoT, Microservices, DevOps, Chatbots/Natural Language experiences, and emerging/disruptive technologies.
