“Uniting Financial and Operational Planning for Alignment and Agility”

While Finance teams typically track annual, quarterly, and sometimes monthly plans, most operational functions are revising departmental plans on a weekly basis. Your marketing department may be seeing softness or surges in new leads that could accelerate next quarter’s results. Your Sales team may be expecting a few sales reps to significantly outperform and generate an outsized commission expense. But in many cases, none of these frequent, operational business changes are reflected in the corporate plan or integrated with the finance team’s view of the business. Departmental “Ops” staff grind away in spreadsheets, disconnected from finance, and actionable issues often don’t surface until after quarterly close. Learn how organizations like yours are tying operational planning processes back to the office of finance to drive better organizational alignment and achieve greater agility to succeed in dynamic markets.

"The Black Hole of Corporate Reporting: How Can CFOs Avoid Getting Sucked In?"

The reporting burden on the Office of Finance is continually expanding.  In many cases, generating the financials is only a fraction of the reporting for which the Office of Finance is responsible and the CFO is accountable. The scope of reporting includes a hybrid of financial and non-financial reporting including regulatory/compliance reporting, board reports, Ks and Qs, annual reports, earnings presentations, sustainability reporting, just to name a few. It is virtually a unanimous opinion that this reporting burden will continue to expand.

What should CFOs do to ensure that these additional reporting requirements are met without increasing the risk of inaccurate or inconsistent reporting to all of these different stakeholders?  How does the CFO avoid spreading resources so thin that it jeopardizes the quality or audibility of the financials?  It is an issue almost every CFO will face in the coming months and years.

"Lessons From the Transformation of a Growth Company"

Foresight Energy (NYSE: FELP) transformed from a small start up to a publicly traded company with one of the largest market caps in its industry in a span of a few years.  This growth is especially meaningful because the company operates in a very challenging industry.

The finance organization plays critical roles along the way, from funding the growth engine to managing capital and operating costs to maintain the company’s competitive edge.  What can small companies learn from large established companies?  What can big companies learn from the entrepreneurial energy of start-ups?  In this session, you will hear the story of Foresight Energy’s transformation and explore the lessons learned along the way.  Come prepared to discuss your own challenges and walk away with practical ideas that you can apply to resolve them.
