Jose Tomas, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Anthem, discussed wellness programs and their impact on today’s organizations during a Thought Leadership Spotlight Presented by Anthem at the 2015 Human Capital Leadership Forum in New York on Oct. 6. In his presentation, “A Happier Healthier Workforce is a More Productive Workforce,” Tomas noted that how an organization brands its incentive programs can have far-flung effects on employees and their overall well-being.
According to Tomas, taking a customer-centric approach to wellness programs is key for organizations of all sizes. If an organization focuses on its employees and understands their needs, Tomas said, it can provide these workers with the tools they need to manage their health: “We are very focused on consumer-centricity. It is a strategic pillar for us this year. Not just ensuring connectivity to the consumer and ensuring that they’re looking at their cost structure … but also focused with the providers, ensuring that we’re having conversations with providers so that they can help save costs to our associates and members.”
